Support children’s reading with a Christmas donation
You too can support children’s reading and literacy, for example, by donating Christmas card funds to purchase book packages for schools, organise author visits or inspiring literacy workshops.
Reading and literature have shown their importance, especially during the past year. During these exceptional times, reading has provided entertainment, but also brought security and comfort to many. The coronavirus crisis has prompted Finns to turn to literature more than usual, according to the results of our recent survey. Nearly a quarter of Finns read more during the spring of the covid crisis. More than 60% of Finns feel that they are reading too little.
The author visits organizer by the Finnish Reading Centre have enabled more than 30,000 children to encounter an author this year . More than 65,000 families have been encouraged to read together.
The Finnish Reading Centre defends everyone’s equal right to reading and literacy. Our goal is that Finland will continue to have the most literate people in the world. Today’s investment in children’s and young people’s literacy goes a long way.
